The Bath Storytelling Circle is currently convened and usually hosted by David Metcalfe

Previous regular Masters of Ceremonies for the evening have been Anthony Nanson (master storyteller and founder of the Circle in 1999) and Kevan Manwaring (former Bard of Bath, author, storyteller and teacher). Occasional hosts have included the multi-vocal Richard Selby (also convenor of the regular 'What A Performance!' verbal antics at the St James Wine Vaults, Bath), Roger Wiltshire (aka Drift Snowbarger, comedian and self-styled appalling poet), Jack Beaumont (Suffolk tale-spinner) and other able wordsmiths.

What makes each evening such a memorable night out is the range of different performances from the array of regulars and newcomers. And those just passing through in recent years have included the impressive R J Stewart, the feral folk phenomenon Ash Mandrake and the exquisite Emily Maguire. With a distinctive blend of story, poetry and song, traditional material and modern invention, there's usually something for everyone!

As well as drawing on the considerable bardic talent of Bath, the storytelling Circle regularly draws people in from as far afield as Corsham, Bristol, Frome and Stroud! Not to mention occasional visitors from such legendary localities as America, Australia, Asia, Africa and Romney Marsh.

As with any performance event, the performers are nothing without the listeners! So even if you don't feel like performing something quite yet, do come along to listen, watch and enjoy!

And last but not least, we owe our special thanks to the Raven for hosting us over quite a few years now, and for the cheerful bar staff who's knowledge of folk tales, folk songs and folk rhymes has increased hugely over that time.
